This month started slow with continuing the brake bleeding progress. (seriously, fuck DOT.5 brake fluid) However one of the guys at the hangar suggested a new method for bleeding the brakes that called for opening the bleed valve and then depressing the lever, followed by closing the valve, releasing the lever and then rinse repeat. This helped greatly with getting fluid through the system. I also ordered a few other parts this month including a water pump housing and a headlight stay to replace the handywork done by the previous owner.
Let's start with talking about the brake bleeding. at this point i'm pretty sure it would've been just as easy to fill it with sweat lol. but i made lots more progress this month than last month. after being told of this new bleeding method me and my support worker managed to make significant progress on bleeding the brakes. The next time we went into the hangar it even built lever pressure! And the time after that we discovered that the front brakes work and that the rear brakes do too!! I was so damn happy about that, i almost cried. the brakes working means that i'm finally in a position to attempt to start the bike.
I should also have a more thorough talk and explanation about the other parts i ordered this month, it started with a new water pump housing early in the month (possibly late feb idk) and was then followed with the new headlight stay a couple of days later. The water pump housing is effectively a cover for the water pump, i needed a new one because the old one was having holes corroded through it where the hose attached to it. The new part was secondhand but it is in better condition than my new part so i think it's plenty fine.
The headlight stay is a bolt-on section of frame forward of the handlebars that mounts the headlights, dashboard and front cowl. It also routes the wiring for the front end of the bike. So this part is pretty important, however the previous owner thought it'd be funny to half arse a front end swap off of another model of bike. (newsflash it wasn't funny) I also ended up getting the headlight stay secondhand but i decided i would paint it with some rustguard before mounting it on the bike which worked out beautifully.
I also ordered a few other parts on the 20th which included new sprockets, chain and a fresh oil filter. I ordered these in hopes that the bike would be in a position to start this weekend on the 25th. if it does start then i can move onto getting the bike to run properly and move under it's own power. (as of writing this it is the 23rd so whish me luck!)
